Roberta Grieve has always loved writing, starting as a young child when she wrote stories and plays for her younger siblings. Her first job was as a junior reporter on a local newspaper where she soon graduated to writing feature articles on local history. Later she worked for West Sussex County Library Service while continuing to write in her spare time. After more than twenty years of dealing with other people’s books, early retirement offered the opportunity to turn what had been hobby into a second career and she started on her first novel. Despite many rejections, Roberta was encouraged to keep writing when she was runner-up in the first Harry Bowling novel competition in 2000. Perseverance paid off and in 2008, her first hardback novel Abigail’s  Secret set in her home town of Chichester, was published, followed by No Sin to Love and On Wings of Song. Her fourth novel, Threads of Silk  is due out in June 2010. Before achieving success with full length novels, Roberta had many short stories and articles published, as well as five My Weekly Pocket Novels, all of which have now been re-issued in large print format. Another is due out shortly. Her articles, which have been published in The Lady, Heritage, Best of  British and The Countryman, cover many subjects reflecting her wide range of interests, particularly history and the countryside. Roberta is secretary of the Chichester Writers’ Circle as well as editor of the Chichester Literary Society’s newsletter. She also judges an annual local short story competition and has given talks and workshops on writing. What little spare time she has is taken up with family and friends but she also enjoys painting and walking, although writing and research, particularly the Victorian and early 20th century periods, are her first loves.
